Family excursion to the Aguacero waterfall

We recommend a short 1-2 days exursion in Chiapas, 2 and a half hour from San Cristobal and a little over an hour from Tuxtla. While all the tourists flood the Canyon del Sumidero, Agua Azul and the Chiflon, the Aguacero waterfall is visited mainly by the locals, especially during the weekends. You will have the experience of climbing the waterfall and showering in it: thanks to the minerals that the rocks are not so slippery.

Where is it exactly? The Aguacero waterfall is located in the Canon del Rio de la Venta, in La Biosfera del Ocote. You will arrive by highway 190, passing through Tuxtla Gutierrez on the way to Ocozocoautla, before entering the community of San Andres take the road on your right hand side. When: in the dry season the water level is very low, you can walk into the river that at this time is just a simple little stream.

Important: there are about 740 steps to go down and … up! In the canyon, there are no stores, no restaurants, and no vendors. Bring enough food and water. Consider if you have enough physical condition to carry the cooler down and up! There are no bathrooms in the canyon. There is surveillance at night and the place is safe.

Take bags to collect your garbage and do not pollute this beautiful place.
