We are Monika and Rudy, a Polish-Mexican couple living in San Cristobal de Las Casas, a magical town in southern Mexico. Since 2010 we manage our own backpackers hostel, Iguana Hostel. We do it with passion, sharing our knowledge about Chiapas and Mexico.

Our mission is to show you the living culture and customs of Chiapas in a personalized, dynamic and fun way, integrating to the traditional festivities or daily activities of the villages in a respectful and less invasive way possible. We do not impose our presence of tourists; We are gratefull for the possibility offered to us.

Rudy, local expert: “I grew up with the traditions and legends of the indigenous and mestizo people of Chiapas, I learned them from my grandparents and parents, then, during my university studies (Political and Social Studies at the Law University), I deepened in various historical and social aspects. I lived a historic moment in my city, witnessing the armed revolution of the EZLN (Zapatistas).

My passion for culture and traditions continues to be more alive everyday and I have enjoyed sharing it with visitors to Chiapas for more than 10 years, receiving very positive comments. “
